“Navigating the Transition of International Commerce During Trump 2.0” and Welcome Reception for CG Mizobuchi
MILWAUKEE — JASWI and Michael Best co-hosted a program titled “Navigating the Transition of International Commerce During Trump 2.0” and a welcome reception for Consul General Masashi Mizobuchi on Sept. 23, 2025, at Michael Best’s Milwaukee office.
The event brought together 54 attendees to examine how recent shifts in U.S. trade, investment and immigration policy may affect Japanese and other global companies operating in Wisconsin. Mizobuchi, Japan’s new consul general, opened the program by sharing his perspectives as Japan’s senior diplomat in the Midwest.
Michael Best subject-matter experts Sean Smestad and Kelly Fortier then discussed evolving tariff, investment and immigration frameworks under “Trump 2.0,” outlining practical implications for cross-border business strategy. Following the program, participants continued networking over dinner at Harbor House, highlighting JASWI’s role in convening legal, diplomatic and business leaders to support U.S.-Japan relations.
