Andrew Seaborg

Professional Background
Andrew co-founded The Capital Group, a Madison-based investment advisory firm, in 2003. Since 2021, he has served as Honorary Consul of Japan in Wisconsin. In this diplomatic post, Andrew represents the government of Japan in Wisconsin. He promotes stronger bilateral US-Japan relations by working closely with government, business, economic development, and academic partners across the state. He also teaches Law 771: Asset Management & Financial Planning at the UW Law School, where he has served as Adjunct Professor since 2007.
Education
Andrew holds an MS in Finance and a BA in Japanese language and Sociology (Concentration in Analysis and Research) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Community Involvement
In addition to JASWI, Andrew currently serves on the boards of Bethel Horizons and International Student Conferences, Inc., sponsor of the longest-standing exchange program between Japan and the United States. During COVID, Andrew served as Board President of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wisconsin’s largest ELCA Lutheran church. Other recent non-profit leadership roles include board positions on the Madison Public Library Foundation, UW-Madison Sociology Board of Visitors, and Wisconsin International Trade Council. Introduced to Japan by Rotary Youth Exchange, Andrew has also held numerous leadership roles in Rotary dating back to 2000.

Andrew lives and breathes promoting Nichibei relations. JASWI exists to foster and deepen ties between Wisconsin and Japan.
Personal Interests
In his free time, Andrew loves to bicycle, boat, ski, and make furniture. He also enjoys hiking the Ice Age Trail with his family and two Airedales.
Fun Fact: Andrew is one of the primary shareholders of Great Dane Japan, an offshoot of the hugely popular Wisconsin brewpub chain that started in Madison in 1994. The largest foreign-owned craft brewer in Japan, Great Dane is brewing 20,000 barrels per year of award-winning lagers, ales, IPAs, pilsners and specialty brews for distribution all around Japan.
